Baseball #25

Hi JD;

This is great! I think I will use it as the summation email for the BASEBALL series. I love that homerun by Ten  W. of 10,000 feet. Did he use a cannon?

I have integrated the SCOOP JOHNSON reports that are concerned with baseball into the BASEBALL series. I think I have three for the season just completed. Is that number correct?

The editing goes slow...It is tedious and hard work and very time consuming. I am at the point where I'm thinking why did I ever start this? In marathon running I think that "hitting the wall" is analogous.

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi Jd;

St. Louis U Billikens are now at 10-3. In their last four games they have held their opponents to less than 50 points...And they up-set New Mexico, a #20 AP ranked team, with a 16 point win, this week.

...And Spring Training opens, for Cub' pitchers and catchers, in less than six weeks...It doesn't get any better...Winter may have just begun, but I already feel Spring in the air...Ah, the joys of being an optimist...You should try it sometime!

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

I was reading comments written on the site of a St Louis newspaper regarding the Billikens. They defeated Virginia Commonwealth Univ 76 to 62. It is noteworthy because VCU is ranked #24 in the AP poll---as of last Tuesday, SLU was #26. On Friday, they play #16 Butler for a second time. They devastated Butler the first time out. If they pull it off again, next Tuesday SLU will be in the Top 25. It doesn't get any better!

Anyway, a comment was listed regarding the Billikens which was a quote from Thomas Jefferson. YOu seem to relish sending me out of context quotes from the great man. Perhaps you can appreciate and learn from this one: "Question with boldness ever the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear." [sic] As I told you, should there be a heaven---and I am wrong---you will still see me there because I am the "bold" one.

Did you read about the monsignor in Conn that has been charged with dealing crystal methamphetamine? Disgusting! What has become of the Church? From pedophilia to drugs; one can only imagine was is in between.

Sincerely;

Dan

Hi JD;

What! No comments on T. Jefferson's remarks concerning a supreme being?  You will note that I followed the quote with "[sic]"  because it was the great man himself that used "god" and "he" in the lower case. Actually, I am more sensitive to you the faithful believer that, out of respect for your sensibilities, I always use the upper case. Maybe I should follow TJ's example.

...Latest on the Billikens...They beat #16 Butler last Friday. COme Tuesday look for them to be in the AP Top 25...Life is good!

Sincerely;

Dan

WHO IN THE FRIGGIN WORLD, OTHER THAN YOU ......AND THE SCHOOL, CARES
??????????????

Hi JD;

You ask who cares in regard to SLU's current status in the world of college basketball? I pass on the info with the intention of claiming "bragging rights." I am surprised that you don't consider this to be a significant thing. I am sure one of your motivations in doing the Scoop Johnson Report is both for "bragging rights" and to support your progeny. And that is probably why I enjoy reading them.

Another reason is the Jesuit education. The term "liberal arts" is a classical Greek term and related to the fact that the teaching of philosophy, science/math and a strong sports program are necessary in the education of a person. Some of the best basketball schools in the USofA are Jesuits schools. Forgot to mention, they beat St Joeseph, last night, and are now 22-5.

...And the baseball season is only a month away...Did I mention that this is the year the the Cubbies will go to the World Series? Kid you not!  I read it in the tea leaves left over from last November's Tea Party "success." Huh? Well, same thing...

Sincerely;

Dan

Hello;

It's March Madness all over again...DD&D has been ignoring the Cubs
website because there is so much being written about the Billikens; I
don't have that much time for sports.

Today, they were ranked #13 in the AP Top 25 poll. Their last previous
high was way back in 1964, in fact, it was on the 29th December. I
didn't recall this tid-bit because that was the day of the birth of my
first child, Heather. I was in my first year of graduate at SLU. They
were ranked #9.

 SLU's first ever win at the NCAA tournament was in 1952 when they
defeated New Mexico State 64-53. Ironically, there first game in the
NCAA---Thursday, 21st---is against that very team. Let's hope history
repeats itself as it is in the habit of doing.

...And during the last two months the team has been on a hot streak
with 15 wins against one loss and the loss was against Xavier---always
a tough team---and it was lost in overtime.

Go Billikens........................................

Sincerely;

DD&D...Hot on the Billiken trail!
